Describe the composition of the National Development Council.

National Development Council formed in 6 August 1952 Accepting the same idea that States should be involved in the formulation of the plan.
The Prime Minister of India is the President of the Council. The Secretary of the Planning Commission is its Secretary and The Chief Minister of all the states of the Indian Union and all the members of the Planning Commission are ex-officio members of National Development Council. The first meeting chaired by Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru on 8–9 November 1952. The 57th Meeting of National Development Council was held on 27 December 2012 at Vidhan Bhavan, New Delhi.So far 57 meetings had been held.

Work of National Development Council

1 - Periodically reviewing the functioning of the Five Year Plan.
2 - To review the economic and social factors affecting the scheme.
3 - To advise the Planning Commission in deciding priorities.
4 - To consider the National Plan prepared by the Planning Commission.
5 - To lay down guidelines for formulation of national plans including evaluation of plan resources.

Objectives of National Development Council

1 - Ensuring balanced and rapid development of all parts of the country.
2 - Strengthen and mobilize the country's efforts and resources in favor of the plan.
3 - Promote common economic policies in all important areas.
